What matters most?
Kids age 4-10 are philosophers by nature and seem to uncannily be able to have clever solutions to some of the most complex problems. A large part of a child's development is to help them to use their minds for themselves and give them the capacity to discuss matters in a philosophical way with their parents and kids of their own age.

The goal of the Caterpillar Series is to create high quality and fun material for children and adults alike, which opens up discussion around important issues relavent to people of all ages: kindness, beauty, friendship, forgiveness, co-operation, to name a few. The series, starring Katie the Caterpillar, is compiled of development stories where Katie and the audience learn how to evaluate what's important in life. The programmes are inherently philosophical and are based on the talks and questions that have come up in children's philosophy classes. These ideas are put into stories where the characters take on various issues and values.
The series is not intended to give a final answer to questions or thoughts, but rather show that individuals are different and that they all have the right to be themselves on their own terms. At the same time the series emphasises the importance of communication and the tolerance of others, however different they may be. Besides this the programmes adhere to participatory and problem-based learning methods rather than an outmoded prescriptive method. Furthermore, the series is based on the belief that positive responses rather than negative responses are more useful and effective and lead to better results. In the series negative emotions will also be considered such as anger, jealousy and ever hate, because all these feelings are known to children of this age and they are important emothions that up philosophical questions about interaction with others and how to maintain a well balanced social structure.

What matters most? is the over-riding name for the series and underlines the theme of each programme.

The series is written by Friðrik Erlingsson, an award winning scriptwriter and heading animation is Gunnar Karlsson who created all the characters in the original short film. Óskar Jónasson, a seasoned director of two featur films, will direct the series. Katie - The Lost Little Caterpillar is produced by CAOZ studios in Reykjavik.

The series follows The Lost Little Caterpillar CG short film created by the same team as will head the development of the series and premiered in fall 2002, setting a local box office record for a short film during its five week run. It received two EDDA awards by the Icelandic film and TV academy for Best short film and Best artistic direction in November 2002.
